Nail Art Wednesday: Red Jelly and Gold Glitter

Sometimes, especially when I'm pressed for time and can't change my polish, I like to jazz up what I already have on with glitter or flakie top coats. It's fast, easy and it looks like you put in a bit of effort even if you really didn't. It's also a great way to ease yourself into doing (and sporting!) nail art. While I had Sweet Tart on, I remembered the nails I had seen from a Sephora Holiday 2011 email (I'm weird like that. I find I notice people's nails even more since I've begun blogging.) so I decided to do my own take on it.

The idea.

The result.

What I Used:
Red: Orly Sweet Tart
Gold Glitter: Color Club Gingerbread

How I Did It:

Yes, that's really it. Done in two steps! If you're looking to jazz up an old manicure or if you're new to the nail art scene and want to try something simple, this is a great way to do it. You can use practically any polish you already have in your collection and the color combinations are limited only by your imagination. You don't even need a glitter polish as you can use regular glitter that you can get from scrapbooking supply stores (the finer glitter are the best to use). Just be careful when applying it over wet polish so that you can concentrate it on the areas you want and not get it all over the nail.

 Easy nail art!

I think the jelly base makes this look more interesting than if I used a creme.

Eek, my hand looks so dry and wrinkly here..! *sad face*

With a plushie Santa! (Yes, I had to post-process the photo because the original was too dark.)

How do you like your nail art: easy and cute or hard and intricate? If you do nail art, do you prefer freehand or stamping/stickers/decals? Do you "recycle" old manicures?
