I picked this up same time as Celestial Star and I was telling myself that I could only get one. Polish costs tend to add up, you know? So I did the rest of my shopping, thinking I'd choose later but ended up with these two polishes still my basket when I got to the counter. I just couldn't pick one over the other! Luckily, Mr. J was with me and ended the silliness by telling me to just get both. Best decision ever!

The Fun Facts
Notice the slight duochrome in the middle of the bottle; darker blue along the sides.
"Q" is for Quo!
You can see the gold glitter/glass flecks (that settled) better here!
Ergonomic brush for better grip despite the stubby-ness.
See that greenish/gold shift?
This turquoise based nail polish with tons of gold and teal glass flecks and fine glitter that spell bling on your nails. The gold shimmer makes it look like it has a greenish duochrome to it. This color shift is easier to see on the nail, unlike its cousin, Celestial Star. In fact, my photos don't really do it justice as it appears more greenish/gold with a turquoise shift and darker teal around the edges, very pretty.
***All nail swatches were done with Nail Tek II Foundation Base Coat and two coats of Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight unless stated.

I bet you can use this to signal passing ships if you were on a deserted island.

I think it's moot to say that it's beyond shiny. Considering that's without top coat! It dries relatively fast as is my experience with most glitter polishes, and quite smooth considering it's so packed with glitter. The brush was very easy to work with. No wayward strands with this one! (The one that came with Celestial Star was probably a fluke. And I was lucky enough to get it. Huh.) The consistency of the polish was exactly what you can expect from an Orly: flows well but not too viscous or too watery. I like to think of it as the Goldilocks consistency. Needless to say that application was a breeze. Also of note is that it's opaque in two coats. Removal, on the other hand (pun intended!), is a different matter altogether. I'm not entirely sure why but this polish left my hands smurf-y blue. Maybe it was the non-acetone polish remover I use, but I'm not so much a fan of blue that I want my hands in the same color.

***I didn't realize I was missing a photo for natural light/flash until I was writing this. No worries, I'll just update this as soon as I can so check back for that. :)
Top coat definitely focused the sparkle but my poor camera couldn't quite capture it properly. I'm guessing too much reflected light.
The Lowdown
If you're a nail polish connoisseur, you'd by now be thinking that the color looks very familiar. You'd be right. As with Celestial Star that's a dupe/repromote from a polish from the Orly Cosmic FX collection, so is Turquoise Moonlight. I also don't have the original polish to compare because it was so hard for me to find, but from photos I've seen, it looks like Halley's Comet. From what I've heard though, it seems that this is a more pigmented polish that requires less coats for opacity. Now that in my book is a winner, right there! Other dupes from different brands include OPI Catch Me In Your Net and Zoya Charla. So if you're the proud owner of any of those, you can safely skip this polish.
Pricewise at $10 CDN for 14mL of polish, this is on the higher end of the scale. However, your other options of getting the same color of polish is a little on the "need to stalk/hunt it down" side. Accessibility drives up the price, but for the color and quality, it'd definitely worth every penny spent.
Hammie is a sucker for everything glittery so he totally loved this polish! But while he loves blue as much as I do, smurf-y fingers are a no go. His score for this polish?
9 Hammie Points!
Will you be at Shoppers on the weekend? Did this Turquoise Moonlight catch your fancy more than Celestial Star?

Thanks, Mary! Hahaha, I'm glad you appreciate my weird sense of humor. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post - this colour definitely was the winner for me out of the few new colours Quo by Orly put out. I think it looks wonderful on your nails, Carmela! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, this made me laugh. ;) "I bet you can use this to signal passing ships if you were on a deserted island."
And thank you so much for linking to my blog! :) That was so sweet of you!
It is very pretty! You should see it in person; it just glows. :)
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, Anthea! That's sweet of you to say, and a really good idea. I'll keep it in mind. Watch for it in my coming posts.
Another deliciously sparkly polish! I prefer this color over the previous one--I love the greenish-gold glitters. Your nails/fingers look very nice by the way, you should post some grooming tips for the uninitiated sometime. ^-^
