Unboxing Julep Maven St. Patrick's Day Mystery Box

I actually skipped on this month's Julep Maven box because I wasn't all too happy about last month's box. Granted, I could've gotten better color choices if I had only bothered to change my option for that month, but I just didn't think it's been worth the $20 when I can get mystery boxes like these that make my $20 go a longer way with more products to try. This month's not as awesome as the Valentine Mystery Box I got last February (now *that* one was pretty epic!) but it still holds its own in terms of value for price. Read on to see what this month's mystery box has in store for us!

Same size as the monthly boxes so I wasn't expecting much...

But when you open the box, you're treated to chocolate gold coins!
(Mr. J got first dibs. Not a bad trade; he gets the chocolate and I get the polish.)

Inside was a travel-size of both the Julep Facial for Hands Glycolic Hand Scrub and Julep Glow On Age Defying Hand Brightener, along with a glass file with different grits on each side.

Meet the St. Patrick's girls from left to right: Emma, Glenn, Basecoat, and Sofia.

Labels at the back.

The entire loot!

Value for retail price, this one's still easily worth a lot more than the $20 I paid. The nail polishes alone total to $56 with each priced at $14. The travel sized products can be purchased as a set on the website that retail for $22 (although it's on sale right now for $17.99!) and the crystal glass file is $6. All that brings the total retail price to $84. So it's almost as if I only paid 1/4 of the retail value. Now that's a good deal! Admittedly, if you consider the amount of product you get versus actual retail price, it's still a pretty steep retail price to start with. Even so, if you bring the retail price down to match those of other comparable product amounts on the market, the total would still fall in the $30-40 range by my guesstimate so the deal itself isn't bad at all.

I do have to say that I'm a little miffed that I got Emma again. That one's haunting me, it feels. On the bright side, at least I have a back up if I run out. Or I can always pass it on to a color-shy nail polish newbie (aka my sis in law). So it's still all good. And remember how I said I passed the hand brightener on to a friend? Well, now I have two of the travel sized ones and the full-size is 3oz, so now I have roughly 2/3 of the full-size one. Yay for that as I really like it compared to the one with spf which smells iffy. Review of it in the works!

Though decidedly not as awesome as the uber box I got for Valentine's, this one still hits the spot and makes for a Happy St. Patrick's Day, indeed!

Did you do anything special for St. Patrick's Day? Which Julep product are you most interested to see a review about? Which sampling/monthly product program is most near and dear to you?

  1. That looks like a great box! It's too bad that you received the same colour twice - but you're right, at least you can share it :) I didn't do anything special w/my nails for St. Patty's Day. My office is pretty casual but still conservative.

  2. O.o

It is..? Oh my goodness, I would never have known if you hadn't said anything, Liz! Thank YOU! :D (I think that little tidbit makes up for getting Emma twice.)

  3. It wasn't too shabby at all, Agnes. ;) I don't mind getting duplicates of the same color if it's something exceptional. Emma doesn't exactly fit the bill but I do love how it has a similar effect to that of Essie Luxe Effects Pearl Perfection when layered with other colors.

Would you have done something if your office allowed it? :) And I'm curious, by conservative, would that mean a nude holographic nail polish would still be considered a no-no?

  4. Haha, I know! I didn't know either until I saw it on someone else's blog. It's weird that Julep makes no mention of it in the product description. But it's a nice surprise, and it glows really well too. :)

  5. Neat little box! I've yet to sign up for any programs, though the element of surprise has me itching to try one.
I would love to see your review of that deep plum/purple one :D
