Nail Art Wednesday: Playing with Born Pretty Store Silver Holographic Rhombus Loose Glitter

Some time ago, I won a giveaway at Chit Chat Nails and managed to snag some of these fantastic loose glitters from the Born Pretty Store. I grabbed a couple of the usual hexagon shaped ones (and you've seen the gold one in action in my effervescent nails here) but just couldn't resist the pull of these holographic gold and silver rhombus shaped glitter. They came in a set of one each and were surprisingly cheaper than the hexagonal ones. I can't pass up a great deal either so they made their way into my checkout basket. Now, I've been waiting for the temperatures to drop a bit so I can finally wear my darker shades. When it finally did, I happily pulled out OPI DS Extravagance (I luckily have two bottles, both gifts from two of favorite nail buddies, Marisa from Polish Obsession, and Mary from Swatch and Learn) and knew exactly what would be perfect to jazz it up some:

Not that it needed more bling.

What I Used:
Base color: OPI DS Extravagance
Loose rhombus shaped glitter from the Born Pretty Store

How I Did It:

Now, I sincerely doubt this needs a how-to since all I did was take an orange stick (or toothpick, whatever you have handy), dampen the pointy end with some water and use that to place the glitter where I wanted them. Of course, you have to do this while the base polish underneath is still wet. Conversely, you can also slather on a thin layer of top coat (just make sure it's not the fast drying kind) to act as a bonder for the glitter to stick to. After that, just add a healthy layer of top coat to seal everything in and you're all set!

I love how this is such an easy way to add that little 'something-something' that you can even use on an existing mani. It's also simple enough that you can probably get away with pairing this with a pretty, work-appropriate color and still have that bit of oomph to it. You can also play around with placement, like I did with my thumb. Best of all, you don't need nail glue as these stick nicely to the polish. With the added layer of topcoat, it'll stay put until you take to it with some nail polish remover.

Here's what the bottle of glitter looks like. I've easily got a lifetime worth of glitter in there!

It was tricky to photograph DS Extravagance because it's so sparkly.

The thumb placement actually came about because the single glitter looked lonely.

Hammie was drooling over this, that silly magpie of a hamster.

Here's a slightly blurry photo to show off just how sparkly and holographic DS Extravagance is.

Sorry about the radio silence from earlier this week. Things kind of got pretty hectic really fast when my brother (who is based in Manila) called to tell me he'll be in Vancouver for work. In fact, his plane should be landing in a half hour or so. Mr. J has only gone as far west as Banff so we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to spend time with my brother and go sight seeing in Vancity. We've been scrambling to book everything (and pack) so there really wasn't time to do any posts. I'll try to schedule some while we're away just so Hammie won't be so lonely. Anyway, I do hope your week has had some happy surprises thrown your way, too! What do we think of DS Extravagance? I'm now convinced I need at least a couple more from the DS line (looking at you, DS Indulgence!). Have you played with loose glitter yet? Do you wear nail art to work? What are some of the must-go places and restos in the West Coast?
